The frame has two different interfaces
An open frame is one component of a complete structure. Its lower board interface and upper cover interface involve different mating objects and inspection conditions.
The lower frame interface mates with the PCB and the upper interface mates with a cover. Their datums and checks should remain distinct while sharing a clear installed relationship. Inspect the upper mating region after the frame is attached to the board; a free-state frame check cannot show every assembly-induced change. For separate frame supply, include the cover revision and the method used to check closure, so the purchase definition describes the complete working interface.
Engineering considerations for this project
Define the lower and upper frame interfaces separately
An EMI frame establishes a board relationship below and a closure relationship above. Show the attachment references used to locate it on the PCB and the features that locate or retain the corresponding cover. These interfaces can be dimensioned separately while still describing one installed chain. A frame-only purchase therefore needs both counterpart definitions even if neither is supplied with the part. This gives the manufacturer a clear account of what the frame must connect and gives engineering a way to review an upper fit concern without losing the board relationship that establishes its installed position. Identify any support or locating condition used while assessing the upper edge, so the check can be related to the frame posture established by the board operation.
The lower interface should include the board lands or fixing arrangement and any nearby keep-outs that restrict the frame walls. The upper interface should identify the lid revision, entry direction and seated relationship. An overall frame width may be useful but cannot express every corner, engagement or contact requirement at those locations. Use local assembly views where needed to show the functional regions. If a wall serves both interfaces, review its consequences on each side before approving a change, rather than assuming a local modification affects only the feature nearest to it.
Inspect the cover relationship after the frame is mounted
The upper mating condition should be assessed with the frame in the installed state required by the project. A loose frame-and-lid check can describe one relationship, while attachment to the PCB establishes another condition for the final assembly. Record both where they serve the sample purpose. If a cover seats differently after mounting, locate the affected frame region and identify the corresponding board and attachment inputs. Those observations help engineering decide whether to examine formed geometry, installed posture or the cover operation before revising the upper interface without a clear account of the change.
Include the surrounding parts that limit access to the cover. A frame can preserve the enclosed circuit for intermediate work, but its walls may still constrain a probe, connector or installation tool. Identify those operations in the assembly brief and show when the lid is fitted. If the product permits service access, retain the corresponding extraction and restoration sequence. This lets a structural comparison consider the frame's actual role over the product sequence, not merely the convenience of leaving the roof open before a cover is placed on an otherwise isolated board.
Keep frame-only supply tied to the complete closure
For separately purchased frames, identify the existing PCB and cover versions used to define compatibility. State whether one installed combination is approved or whether other counterparts require assessment. The quotation and sample work can then preserve the relevant interfaces without implicitly redesigning the rest of the assembly. Component identification should retain those counterpart references where the project needs them for receiving or repeat supply. This prevents a frame drawing from becoming disconnected from the lid and board arrangement that gives its critical features their working purpose.
A later frame revision should state its effect on each interface. An attachment change can alter the installed upper location even if the lid is unchanged, while an upper engagement change can leave the PCB relationship intact. Select the recheck through that consequence and record the checked counterparts. If the board or cover changes instead, review its relationship with the retained frame. This controlled approach supports frame-only development and replacement purchasing, with the accepted part defined by its actual lower and upper tasks rather than by an exterior shape that resembles another open metal component.
Boundary, clearance and mating design
Coordinate the landing edge with pads and keepouts. The frame height, lower-edge condition and cover-engagement geometry form a connected dimensional chain.
A frame, lid or clip must be located within the complete shielding assembly. Identify its mating object and the part of the boundary it establishes. An open frame needs an upper closure, a lid needs a base and a clip needs the edge or component it retains. The standalone outline is therefore only one part of the definition. Show the working position and the interfaces that remain dependent on other components before discussing supply or inspection.
Material and final surface definition
Define the material and condition for each component according to its role. A fixed frame, a deflecting clip and a roofed lid can require different working checks even when the project uses one broad alloy family. Specify final surfaces at joining and mating regions separately from non-contact appearance. The component name does not establish its grade, thickness or process state, so those requirements remain part of the drawing and material definition.
Forming and the installation sequence
Fitting the frame first preserves circuit access. Check the upper mating interface after board attachment because installed posture can differ from the bare component.
Use the actual mating relationship to select datums and critical dimensions. A cover edge can be checked against a frame, while a frame landing is checked against the board. A clip’s free-state shape and working position need corresponding references. Specify the installation direction and any intended movement, with an inspection method that can reach the real feature. Individually accepted components still require a defined assembly check where the project depends on their combined fit.
A lower landing and an upper closure
Compare frame options through both interfaces, rather than selecting only a perimeter that fits the board. A higher wall can change lid position and access; a different bottom landing can change attachment or keepout. Use the board and cover as linked references and check the upper interface after attachment. If the frame is supplied alone, define the customer lid used for sample acceptance and the agreed compatibility scope.
Part inspection and application evaluation
Use the actual PCB for the lower interface and a matching cover for the upper one. Keep paired revisions identifiable when parts are ordered separately.

Questions for this design review
Why inspect a frame after it is mounted?
The mounting operation establishes the working datum and can change the posture used by the lid. Check the lower edge against the board, then check the upper mating region with the matching cover. Record both observations separately from loose-part inspection. This provides a clear way to discuss an issue that appears only after attachment and avoids treating every lid-seating concern as a defect in the cover.
Which drawings support the review of EMI Shielding Frame?
Use the current layout and mating assembly to identify PCB landing, installed posture, cover engagement and paired revisions. Mark the relationship that is already fixed and the specific feature being considered for change. A drawing of the cover alone may omit the condition that gives the reference its engineering purpose. Include the corresponding board or base and the intended operation so the proposed revision can be evaluated against a defined task rather than a similar-looking external shape.
In-House Tooling & Formed-Part Quality
Tooling development and forming quality
The manufacturing review for EMI Shielding Frame connects how critical features are formed, how they are inspected and how they meet the mating assembly. Ruishuo links in-house die design and CAD/CAM simulation with stamping. Die-making output of more than 100 sets per month is a factory capability; the tool concept is reviewed for the actual project.
The board interface and the lid interface
A shield frame attaches to the board and establishes the mating boundary for the lid. Define the attachment-edge datums separately from the upper engagement features, then review wall position, grounding locations and lid entry together.
- Formed attachment condition
- Check the attachment edge, mounting features and PCB locations against the drawing. Verify the installed position after the specified soldering or fixing operation.
- Lid revision compatibility
- Use the corresponding lid to check locating, closure and removal space. Material or engagement changes should be synchronized with the mating part.

Paid samples include a full dimensional inspection report. Define drawing datums, acceptance criteria and corresponding mating parts so measurement and installed-fit checks can each answer the correct question. Confirm the charges, responsibilities and revision requirements for design changes, tooling work and later production stages within the project scope.
Paid samples and project planning
Samples are chargeable. Reference planning: standard samples 3–5 days; expedited sampling 48 hours; tooling and sample production 7–10 days. These are sample-stage arrangements, excluding mass-production delivery. The project plan is reviewed against the confirmed information, process and sample scope.
